Greetings from Northern Optical Telescope (NOT) on La Palma

Greetings from theĀ Northern Optical Telescope (NOT)! Quite often I used this webcam to check the weather on top of Roque de Los Muchachos and even more often I just was wishing to be up there while sitting in the office at home.

While being up at el Roque this time I finally decided to do something nonsensical and just waved into the camera to greet all astro-fans at home šŸ˜€

Clear skies!

One day on Roque de Los Muchachos

This day I drove all the way up to Roque de Los Muchachos on La Palma. From El Jesus it takes about 1:10 – depending on the driving style. One thing to take in mind is that one is going upwards from ~600m to ~2400m by car. Some people even may suffer from circulation problems. So when being up there move slowly and remember that the air density is reduced by about 15-20% compared to El Jesus or similar starting points. The next ambulance is about 1:30h away from this point. So one should only go up there if he/she feels good.

Beauty of space – My best astro-images in 2013

In this short video I summarized all the best astro images I made over the last year. Most of the images have been taken from Boeblingen using a 8″ Newtonian telescope and an Atik383L+ camera. All the images are also available in full resolution on my website. The video has been composed using openshot, an open source video editor for Linux (many thanks to the development team).

Clear skies!
