In this article I write about my experience with the Fujifilm X-T1 2″ Telescope adapter from telescopeadapters.com. Some time ago I bought the Fujifilm X-T1 camera. It didn’t last quite long – then I wanted to connect it to my telescope 🙂 At first it was quite hard to find a suitable adapter. After searching the web I finally found https://www.telescopeadapters.com/.
They offer an adapter to connect the X-T1 to an 2″ focuser. However, as always I was not sure if this thing is really going to work and if everything fits together. Still, it was worth a try and so I placed an order.
In short I can say that it works quite well.
Below are some photos of the setup:
There are just two minor things I ran into:
- When I pressed the trigger no picture was taken. After calling the support it turned out that the solution was quite simple: You have to enable “Shoot without lens” in the camera menu. Otherwise the chip will not be exposed to the light because the camera thinks there is no protection in front of the sensor.
- When connecting the adapter to your X-T1, make sure that the red dots on the camera and on the adapter lie on top of each other. Otherwise the adapter does not lock.
Now it works perfectly well! Here is one timelapse and one video I recorded with the Fujifilm X-T1 as well as some photos I have taken with this adapter.
Clear skies!

I’m new to this, I know to set the X-T1 to Shoot without a lens (on) but I’m confused as determining the setting for “Mount Adaptor focal Length” . M telescope, a reflector has a focal length of 750 mm. I read on an internet site I should set the Mount Adaptor focal length setting to 750mm. Seems too large. Please comment, thanks.
Good morning Kenneth,
actually I have not heard about that setting, yet. When I took photos with the 2″ Telescope Adapter I left the setting as it was (50mm) because I was not aware of it. It still worked and made no difference. Hence, my guess is it does not have any functional effect in combination with the Telescope Adapter. I also found an interesting thread about this setting on the fuji forum: http://www.fujix-forum.com/threads/lens-mount-adapter-settings.36732
There they say: “On an X-T1 I don’t think it actually does anything – other than, that is, appearing in the EXIF. I guess that either matters to you or not? It can be annoying if it’s incorrect (and you can’t quite remember what lens you used where you have multiple ones).”
Hope that helps!
hi
a bit puzzled on how to set the aperture. my x-t 1 keeps reading f0, and i can’t seem to manually indicate the telescope aperture (it’s a 1250mm maksutov, f:13,9)
thanks in advance
Hi Artur, sorry for the late response – it’s a bit busy at the moment. I just saw that your question has already been answered at a different place. For others, this might also be helpful. Hence, here the link to the post. Best regards!
